The INM : a success story

  • 1987 INM was founded as a non-profit limited liability corporation. Saarland regional government was the sole shareholder and Prof. Dr. Herbert Gleiter was the managing director
  • 1990 Prof. Dr. Helmut K. Schmidt took over the management
  • 1990-1995 The basic structure of the institute was built up. Founded by DFG (“Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft”), BMBF (“Bundesministerium für Bildung und Wissenschaft”) and industrial companies
  • 1993 Evaluation by German Scientific Council (“Wissenschaftsrat”)
  • 1994 INM was recommended to be included in the so-called Blue List (“Blaue Liste”)
  • 1996-2000 Technology transfer from basic research to applications, cooperation with companies, building up technology platforms
  • 1999 Inclusion into Blue List (Now: “Leibniz Gemeinschaft”)
  • Since 2000 Setting up subsidiaries
  • 2003 Change of name in Leibniz-Institute for New Materialis (“Leibniz Institut für Neue Materialien gGmbH)
  • 2005 Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Michael Veith and Jochen Flackus took over the management of INM
  • 2007 Prof. Dr. Eduard Arzt became Chairman of the Board of Directors
  • 2010 Dr. Roland Rolles takes over the business management of INM
